How to take care of your M-B Gold Plated Jewellery

Gold plated jewellery is such a great alternative to real gold especially when the cost of even 9ct gold can be quite prohibitive. Gold plated jewellery looks just as good as the real thing (well it almost is - as the plating is a layer of real gold applied to another metal, in our case silver). As there is this layer of plating, different care is needed when looking after them. Be aware that with time the plating can wear off when not taken care of properly, which is why I have compiled my top 5 tips for looking after your precious gold plated jewels.

NUMBER ONE

Don’t get your Gold plated Jewellery wet - make sure to remove your jewels if you are doing anything that could create moisture e.g exercise, washing up, bathing - or anything you can think of that might get your jewellery wet.

NUMBER TWO

Wait until you are fully dry before putting on your jewellery. Lotions and perfumes can tarnish the Gold plating.

NUMBER THREE

Store your jewellery in the box it came in away from other pieces of jewellery, being exposed to oxygen in the air and also being next to other pieces of jewellery can enhance the tarnishing process. Especially as the M-B boxes are so special, its more reason to use them and appreciate them as much as possible. (well I think so at least <3 )

NUMBER FOUR

Don’t sleep in your Gold plated jewellery - this is to avoid friction, however tempting it might be to keep your jewels on your at all times. I get it I do - you want to be able to enjoy them for a long time.

NUMBER FIVE

And finally... don’t use abrasive cleaners to clean the jewellery as this will almost certainly remove the gold plated layer. Some gold and silver polishing cloths will also remove the Gold plated layer.

I hope that you have enjoyed reading this blog post and now you will know how to look after your Gold plated M-B jewellery.
